life update 5.2026

Hey! It’s been a while. The past year was really rough for me, not going to lie. I got laid off and the constant toil of applying for job after job and just getting ghosted over and over again really started to wear on me. Depression kind of kills my motivation or joy for writing, so that’s why I’ve been kind of MIA. But! I still never gave up and in February I (FINALLY) found some reliable work. I’ve been on contract working as a Senior Video Producer for the National Education Association, a huge teacher’s union based out of D.C. It’s been really awesome developing new skills in production, video editing, and project management—especially when the work benefits teachers nationwide.

What else happened…my little sister got engaged and she and her fiance are planning to move to Berlin in a year, which gives me all sorts of mixed emotions. Like, I’m very happy for her but also low key devastated that she’ll be so far away. Her thoughts are that I should just move there too, but I also really love my community here in Richmond. And if I moved there, I’d just be following her instead of carving my own path. On the other hand, America is kind of a huge dumpster fire…So yeah, I’m confused and mixed up about it. And besides, if I’m moving my cats across the Atlantic, I might as well go to Paris. My cats could hardly stand being moved from Manchester to Forest Hill.

I recently moved into my friend’s house. They’re renting their guest room to me and my cats for a little while for super cheap, since I can’t really afford $1,400 rent anymore. It’s been really nice, living with other people. Their dogs actually get along great with my cats, and we all watch shows together and I cook elaborate meals for them. It’s cozy. All in all, things are on the up. Life has downturns and upturns, and I’m learning how to navigate them. I’m still trying to learn Spanish, I’m reading this gigantic art history tome, and I’m working my way through the 1001 movies to watch before you die list. And now, I’m going to try to start writing here again. So more to come!
